EJ - dunno yet - it's still in keeping phase. I suspect it might be piccalilli-flavoured in which case I donate it to willing volunteers and consider playing about with recipes (Cos I don't like piccalilli either!).

I've got a red tomato one in the AFRC Home preserving... book, which I'll look up. Might be what you're after.

There's the Madhur Jaffrey one? I made it several years ago and loved it -

SS, lovely recipe!  Am now wondering if I could bottle it the same as I would any  other chuts rather than keep it in the fridge.  May also try adding some chopped toms right at the end, just to heat through so they retain their shape and texture.  YUM!

Here's a pic of some chutneys, my runner bean chutney is piccalilli tasting, but not too thick or strong thank goodness.

I think it's the turmeric that does it.  It has a "perfumey" flavour that I don't much care for.

hi tilts, ty for asking :)
got receep from the KG website, from lovely Tigger who is possibly EJ's Secret Twin ;)
Very simple and turns out lovely and 'clean' - just started the first pot :P

‘Bread and Butter’ pickle

3 large cucumbers.
3 tbs salt.
4 onions - sliced.
1 pint white vinegar (I used white balsamic and white wine vinegar)
6 ozs sugar.
1 tsp celery seed.
2 tsp mustard seed.

Place the sliced cuccumbers, salt and sliced onions in a bowl. Stand for an hour. Pour off the brine and rinse well. Drain. Heat the vinegar, sugar, celery and mustard seed. Dissolve the sugar. Boil for 3 minutes.
Pack the vegetables into the jars and seal with the hot vinegar.

Store for 3 months before opening.

PS quite a job finding celery seed, eventually found at Julian Graves ::)

My thanks to all of you... for such lovely recipes, label ideas, and the inspiration to get up and give 'preserving' a bash.

 :D

Top - Pickled green chillies, black mango chutney
Middle - Pickled green tomatoes, Nancy's Grandma's Apple Chutney, Sweet Chilli Jelly
Bottom - Beetroot chutney, pickled beetroot, pulp marrow and ginger jam, apple and ginger jam.
