Well itz here
« on: October 11, 2003, 03:22:40 »
     Yo rugby watching allotment/gardening peeps

I watched the opener and thought Wendel Sailors try was awesum, mahn he powered his way through 3 tackles to get that baby down, for me he was man of the match, he, like O'Driscol has a low centre of gravity, and was exciting to watch.

Going to bed now as I have to be up at 5am for the New Zealand
V Italy game, then Irelad v Romania, then France v Fiji. (that will be interesting)(No it wasn't! thought the french were boring today) and
then South Africa v Uruguay.

So nighty-night

oZzY %) ::)

Thank you Ozzy for your kind thoughts for tomorrow.   Although England have been tipped as fovourites, I am apprehensive about the game against the Springboks - they have a certain reputation.   We will see.

I concur that the Canadians are looking good and are playing well - but I will be surprised if they get to the qtr finals.   I liked the way the Yanks played a very open game though.

Whoo whoo - enjoyed that match

I hate to be girly about it all - but aren't the Engerland and RSA players so much better looking than they used to be - Scrumhalfs get a special mention.  (Sorry to detract from the serious discussion about the match, you can go back to the real Rugby talk now)

Hi Ozzy and Cerig - glad you enjoyed the game.   As I said I was apprehensive and had some doubts.   Thought it was going to be the Second Boer Woer, but it was suprisingly a fair game by all the players, with no sin bins - only blood bins, and several replacement shirts.

Ireland should beat Namibia, and Wales should beat Tonga, but whether they will be "cricket" scores remains to be seen.

In respect of the Irish, I particularly like Keith Wood's play - reminds me of the way I would have liked to have played when a youth, (says he with tongue in cheek !).

So tomorrow morning's mapped out, and so is half of the afternoon - just wondering when I can get round to pruning a pyracantha.

Decent team would have beaten the pair of them. Nerves do you reckon? By the way England won the first Rugby World Cup in 1954.

Whoa Oz ! did you see the England Samoa game ?
I was on the edge of me seat - the samoans played out of their skins - I thought we were gonna get beat :-(

But we came back and won with a decent scoreline but I'm looking forward to seeing them take on the South Africans :-)

Samoa are probably one of the two strongest sides in the championship - let`s face it, if they didn`t keep losing their players to the other teams in the Antipodes they would probably have won the World Cup before now - so beating them was an achievement.

The OTHER team who played today appeared lucky to get through - and they`ve had no real opposition so far.

Ozzy, even David Beckham only misses one penalty per match.  I almost lost count of the number your lot either missed or threw away by trying to run the ball instead of kicking. So they lost to the only respectable team they`ve met so far.

As to England - well, there have been times when the English test cricket team would have been happy with such a score.

Bring on the Taffies!

Crecy, Agincourt, Trafalgar, Waterloo, (to quote the more famous) and now Australia.   These Frenchies just don't know when they are beaten.

I must admire the French team for their open play, but they didn't stand a chance today - they woz squoshed.   They woz also "dirty", and didn't get away with it.   Next week's result doesn't matter more than it will be a British team that will win, and the French will not be in that contest.   They have yet to be beaten into fourth place by the Kiwis on Thursday, and I shall be routing for The All Blacks on that day.

It wll be a tense match next Saturday and I will no doubt be on the very edge of my seat - amazing how tiring getting so tense can be.   I can't make any predictions.   No one can when the best two teams in the world will come together.

Both coaches will deserve a knighthood, and suitable awards should be made to both the British teams.   Watching young Prince Harry in the stands, I'm sure that if he was in charge, the whole team (including reserves) would get knighthoods, and why not.

I'm sorry the other "home" teams didn't get through, and Ozzy, especially W A L E S, but can you honestly see them destroy them Frenchies the way England did?   The Welsh also play a magnificent open game which is a joy to watch, but you can't play like that against the French unfortunately, and expect to win.

It would be wrong to single out individual players (such as point scoring Jonny Wilkinson etc) because without the teams' efforts the ball would not reach him such that can kick those points.   It seems sad that after next week's match he may retire from international rugby.   The same goes for Gregan of Australia, and Wood of Ireland.   To misquote, the time must come for all good men and true.....
