More Sunflower seeds
« on: September 06, 2005, 10:27:54 »
I was thinking of bringing a developing seed head into the house to continue it's development away from the damp mornings and rain that's been forecast over the next couple of days. Already lost two crops of Sunflower seed due to dampness (I think, they went mouldy).

I thought that I would put the developing seed head into a vase of water with a little dilute fertiliser. Would this work?

Decided to try it anyway. Got two heads of Red Sun and one of Big smile. Hope it works because I've only got one other Big Smile flower left which I have left on the plant outside.

Seeds on all three Sunflower heads look like they are continuing to developĀ  ;D Don't know if the dilute fertilizer is making a difference though. Need to bring more in to try without fertilizer and if that works too then I'll have some for eating as well as plantingĀ  ;D
