Vegetable water...
« on: August 25, 2005, 15:48:24 »
This is probably a really stupid question, so feel free to laugh at me (!)....

The water that you boil or steam your veggies in...I always have some left over after I've made my gravy - would plants (house plants and/or garden plants) benefit from having a drop of this??

My husband asked me this question the other day and I haven't got a clue!

Thanks!

I should think so although all ours - we steam our veg over our potatoes, goes into gravy.  I would think the water used to boil green veg is quite high in nitrates so would do the plants good when it comes to growing leafy matter.

Ours goes into the stockpot. However I heard that the water you soak dried (presumably organic) legumes in is good for house plants...

would they mind the salt? i assume you add salt to the cooking water of your veg?

We have a huge wine bucket thing outside the back door we put any water from our aquarium and flower vases etc... to use on the garden, but never thought of the beg water.

let us know how you get on!

I don't actually add salt to my veg (much to my husbands disgust!) - I'll try it out when I do a roast on Sunday!
