MAN OVERBOARD!
« on: December 04, 2003, 20:40:37 »
And who noticed ? Who cared? What a loyal crew!

As the Search & Rescue chief for the RAF for 4 years, I would never have let someone go missing without an all out search.

But you'll all get what you deserve. Having lost everything in formatting the laptop (including 400 or so photos, and dozens of other vital references - yes, yes, I know,  back it all up - if you know how) after it had a real big wobbly, I shall not only be asking for reminders of e-mail addresses, but also making up for 4 lost days.  And what was left of a head of hair.

At the same time trying to find a way of lighting daughter's 11'x3' painting of the whole village, due to be unveiled TOMORROW in the village hall. Still haven't found a real solution. But 'don't cry for me .......'

Tim

Thought you had been quiet.  Put it down to this time of year - the pre-christmas headless chicken race!  Glad you are back.

Ages and ages and ages ago, Tim was, inexplicably, locked out of the Beeb Boards (as you can imagine, he's quite a cook, too,  and the Food Boards were also missing him :'(..)

So we organised a Demo  8)

Banners an hooters and marching to and fro across our puter screens shouting

"What do we want?"
"Ower Tim!"
"And when do we want him?"
NOW !!!

Fair took me back to my youth & Aldermaston, it did.. ;D Lish

Oh no Tim, major disaster! So sorry. I didn't miss you since I was missing a little while myself (you noticed Lish). Had to do a lot of translating work at home with a killer dead-line. Don't judge me on my language skills here please, this is fun time only.

About the panto (what does that word mean anyway, pantomime?), I can't keep up. So much slang and jargon, I just don't understand a lot of it so I stayed on the side lines. I'll take the coats at the door (and see what's left in the pockets heehee).

Doubledutch

Crimbo is shorthand for Christmas.

Pantomine is a British tradition of dramatic entertainment where the principal BOY is played by a GIRL (who slaps her thighs a lot) and is usually based on a fairy tale.

The female comic leads (Ugly Sisters, Widows, Mothers, etc,) are played by MEN.

Sort of cross dressing on a mammoth festive scale.  Well, if you are anywhere near Amsterdam you will know what I mean.

But it's what Britain does best!!!!!

Ien, it's all been double-dutch to me, too...I've never been to a Panto and don't know the tales AND it was only when I read things here that I learned they were spoken in rhyme...

I can't remember going to one when I was a child; there wasn't a history of them when my child was a child in Italy (tho there was a real mean Punchinello around at the time, I recall) and why the heck should/would I want to go to one now? Still...second childhood is approaching & I'm gonna enjoy this Christmas, I think  ;) Lishka

Jeez, sounds very complicated this crimbo panto stuff. Interesting piece of folklore. See what one can learn on a gardening board? Thanks for explaining.
