CASTING- last call
« on: December 14, 2003, 17:44:34 »
Right-Oh you lot - all the relevant threads have been bumped up...openers and beginners (when? on the 19th??)... let the casting commence...

1st off...Oz is a well-wicked tree, and the only professionally trained actor we have here but, at this time of year, he's obviously and understandably in demand...got to do Stratford you understand? Lots of trees and woods in Shakespeare plays and 'sides, with his weight-gain this year, he's fully booked at The Globe.. SO...

1) at what time can we expect The Mighty Oak on Stage, please? and

2) may we have other trees - young saplings, perhaps??
it seems that we will need 7 of these...as EJ, who
sort of fancies being Maid Marion,or Snow White if
she can work it and they can be  transmogriphied

3) I AM GRASSY NELL - no stand/lie-ins needed..

4) the rest of you????

in the sixties, all the girls had tiny tears dolls but we were proud(ish) owners of a large plastic LIFESIZE doll which we lent our school to use in the nativity play. At the most tender moment, Mary lifted the baby jesus for all to see. Into the silence, the piercing voice of my younger sister....'ahh look, it's our simon'!

Aaaah - school nativity plays; just been at my daughter's.  Nerve-wracking - especially remembering a primary school nativity play in Dundee (or so I've heard tell!).

Wee Ian is right miffed at not being chosen for the part of Joseph.  No, not even a shepherd, or a wise man, he.  And the screaming tantrum he threw excluded him from being chosen as an angel.  As consolation, he's given the part of the inn-keeper.

And bless his cotton socks, he puts all his effort into getting his one line right - every single rehearsal, he's  just spot on.  No more tantrums, no more anger - teacher thinks she's got him sussed.

So - the big night -

Angelic eight- and nine-year olds singing their hearts out.

Mary and Joseph come through the side door of the school hall, and trudge through the serried rows of parents.  Shoulders bowed, heads low, Mary and Joseph reach the inn door, and rap dramatically.

Wee Ian/Innkeeper opens the door.

Joseph (clear as a bell - they've been well rehearsed this little lot) - "We are travellers, cold and tired - is there any room at the inn?"

Innkeeper/Ian (clear as a bell, also) - "Why sure, come right on in - I've kept the best room in the inn just for you!"

Kids!!!!!!!

As for Jethro the wicked sheriff.....what does he do to me the Maid Marion after he has exhausted himself with the grassy Nell??   ;)

ah bless! i am past all that - no more having to rustle up full costumes (the night before the big event) using a tea-towel and an old sheet - no more halloween dressing up and no more nerve wracking performances watching the (inevitable) chaos, wishing yours would stop picking their nose, poking their neighbour and waving at us. No more tanties when hated rival gets best part whilst yours is cast as 'fourth sheep'. Best of all, no more cringing as young(ish) headmaster leads a rousing chorus of 'lord of the dance' on his guitar (or kumbaya if really unlucky).

Oh yeh, grandchildren.......gulp.
