Hen Proof Plants
« on: July 26, 2005, 12:58:44 »
As you know I have the 3 hens in the garden and I am very happy on the whole.

It has required a little bit of work hen proofing some of the beds, I have used 60cm high green chicken wire along the front of the beds, supported with small posts. This has effectively stopped them getting into the beds and making a mess and the green wire blends into the background so it is almost invisible.

How ever I have left some beds so they have access to burrow into the greenery to explore and hunt bugs. This has meant they have attached some shrubs plants, primrose, hosta and nigella seem big favourites. I would like to try and find some hen proof shrubs to replace them.

Anyone with any ideas, I need some for dry full sun and also some for damp shade.

Some of my ideas include cranesbill, rose, japanese anemone, box, hebe, rose, hehbore, etc.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Jerry
