Courgette Disaster or Paranoia?
« on: July 18, 2005, 18:13:05 »
Never grown courgettes before.
Flowers have come out on the biggest plant and stayed looking grreat for a whole day. Then they closed up and shrivelled and have now fallen off.
Is it something I did?
Is it something I didn't did?
Does it matter in the big scheme of things?

Either an unfulfilled female or your average male?

Either way - (probably) not your fault!!

I would guess it wont matter, soon you will inundated with too many courgettes! Perhaps someone can explain to me why I chose to grow eight plants? Am I feeding the whole of Coventry?

I have the same thing - full bloom for a day then shrivel to nothing. Not worrying about it just yet as at least something is growing!
Keep getting worried that the stuff I grow will taste nasty - or turn out poisonous!

Derek - yes - when you reckon that we had 62 off one plant last year - yes!!

As to flowers dropping off - it's all been said before but - male or female??

My husband groans when he sees me walk in with yet another picking of courgettes  ;D  He's not as in love with them as I am   :)
I came, I saw, I composted

First year on the lottie so thought I'd play safe - 6 black beauty and 3 golden [something].   Yes 9 plants!!!!   Just as well we all like them, as do friends, neighbours, work colleagues, strangers in the street...........

Think I might plant a few less next year!!  :P
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!

The problem is Icy, you will plant less courgette plants next year, and they will fail....tis what happened to me last year, so this year, 10 or more plants, 3 different varieties, fridge is full, sending Ava to work with them for workmates, sending kids to school with them for teachers, neighbours are avoiding me, have made soup, stew, roasted, baked, grilled and raw.  Still my fridge is full!  I am not complaining, cos even tho I have more than I can cope with......I do get such a buzz when I pick them and fill my trug up!
