What format?
« on: July 14, 2005, 18:40:35 »
What sort of format do you want in a a4a show this year? Do you want lots and lots of categories? Perhaps a basket of mixed things harvest. What about an ugly/funny veg/fruit? Pictures of harvest/flowers/veggies... to be taken any time this year up to the closing date? Should this time limit to one entry per person per competition/class - though it is very hard to choose which picture to submit in the photo comp!

I think the format should be very simple, the more complex the more work for the people putting up the polls for voting. Last years worked very well in my opinion.

May be three or so main groups of classes:

Vegetables for comps based on varieties, carrots, parsnips, leeks, salad spuds, main crop spuds, tomatoes, lettuce, main crop onions, salad onions, melons, squash, etc, etc.

Flowers, again based around the varieties, rose, sweetpea, dahlia, chrysanthemum, etc, etc.

Collections or Arrangements, this could be classes such as a tray of mixed veg or flower arrangement or even hanging baskets may be?

And finally Others, for things such as allotment views, odd shaped vegetables, etc.

Just a suggestion.

I'm with Jerry, simple!  You worked so hard doing it last year, you little star you!  Mind you, I will have to start taking 'nice' shots of my veggies now!

What are the rules and how does it work?   i.e. can links be used,  over set dates or the whole year etc.

Sounds like fun and would love to have a go.  Iain

I thought last year's seemed to go well, and I liked the format, even though I was too disorganised to enter on time.

I think I have a tomato that will end up in the 'humourous veg' category  ;D

hehehehe, considering how well a lot of us are doing with courgettes this year, we could have a biggest glut catagory!

I was just scoffing the last of my Paris Market carrots last night and thinking what lovely shapes they were when cut in half that I remembered I could have entered the compy.  Too late!  Burp  ;D

PS   When does all this kick off ?

As for when? Not this week because I am at the Eisteddfod, grr - mud galore. Metcheck said (very) light rain yesterday - but it was not like that and persistent. Not sure what the allotment looks like at mo - empty-ish?

Mis Medi - the Welsh for September, the "Medi" bit is the verb "to harvest".

How about kicking off late August/beginning September?

YAY!  Must must start taking pics of my lovely fruits and veggies before I tuck in!  Maybe we should have a 'dinner plate' section?!?  ;D

Yes EJ   I agree.  I keep forgetting to take pics and then it's too late - gone!
:)     My veggies are mostly funny shapes though.  Is it like a proper veg show when they are judged on beauty alone  ;D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Wardy, and some of my gorgeous veggies have been less than perfect!
