Chickens

Hi all,
Thinking of getting some chickens but the old types, legbars wellsummer.
any advice or idea's welcome,once ground has been sorted out could you put meadow seed down plot size for chickens 45ft x 90ft long or is there something better

Hello, River cottage site is very good for Chickens. I don't know about old types i have Rhodeys.

I've got some Dorking hens which hatched about 3 months ago, they are very pretty and an old breed, not sure where you could buy from though. :)

I like the pure breeds best and they are much hardier and disease free but a few less eggs and more prone to go broody. I had some lovely Light Sussex that laid well until the fox saw them off. Just hatched 8 Welsummers this year as I liked the last lot - very docile and inquisitive. Marans are lovely looking too and lay a beautiful dark egg. Have you a local Fur and feather sale?
