And now the good news.
« on: July 06, 2005, 09:28:10 »
We had the usual early aphid attack - & a few whitefly - on both peppers & aubergines.
Usual ploy of squidging every colony every week until we established some control.
Today there were few pests to be seen, but several parasitised - & some charming little fellows like below. Even though I haven't yet seen a ladybird in the 'house.

Isn't nature great!!

Is that an earwig? We have earwigs on some of our veggies - are they good or bad? I have no idea whether they eat other pests or eat the greenery.

Ladybird larva. A GOODY!

Earwigs are mainly scavengers. But some are predators.

Even better are hoverfly larvae.  Look like little maggots but just watch them munch aphids - rate of 1 every couple of seconds or so - amazing to watch....or am I just morbid????
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!
