Nicked!
« on: January 17, 2004, 04:10:38 »
Just gonna have a wee rant about people nicking stuff off lotties...

As I was having a mare trying to find my water supply, I posted a thread re: water butts, to get some ideas about collecting water.  Many suggestions were made, many v good n useful, and I was dead excited about potential water gathering, so I decided to take advice of one v creative A4A personage (soz, don't remember who) and create a bus shelter type thang, with corrogated plastic roof, for hiding under in the rain, and to collect water into a butt.  I purchased nice long bits of wood to create said shelter, and cos I hadn't got around to building it, stashed said wood on me lottie, fairly hidden by my (now burnt - mmmm, fire) bonfire...

It wasn't there the next time I went.  Stealing from people who aint really got the cash to flash in the first place is just SOOOOOO annoying, I'm of half a mind to run around the site checking to see if anyone has nice long bits of wood on theirs and shouting at them...

Anyone else had anything stolen?  If so, this is your time to rant...

Me so cross   >:(  >:(  :-X

So sorry to here about your experiences on your lottie Mystic - it seems no-where is safe from these scumbags >:(

We have two sheds and two greenhouses in our garden and they were broken into, garden tools stolen also a garden vac.  We now have to put padlocks on our greenhouses - how annoying is that :-X

Also hub has had to reinforce the shed doors to make it more difficult to break into.

Hi Mystic - yup - been a victim of the same...complained to the committee but no joy.  If you buy anything in future paint your name or plot number on it in big letters! At least you'll be able to see your wood from the trees!  ;)  AC

Hell MM, how crud is that!  Feel for ya mate!  And the rest of yous who have this problem.  We are sooooooooooooooo lucky!  You have seen the pic of our, ahem, security gates at out lottie.  So far, not vandalism or thefts.  The site secretary told us in all her years it has never been an issue!  One old chap leaves his petrol rotovator there, just tucked behing his row of raspberries.  Another leaves his strimmer.  If peeps don't have a shed, they just leave their tools and bits at one side of their plot.  There is a couple on our site who have built a bus sheltery type thingy to store stuff under, no door, just 3 sides, and they have plassy chairs, table, tools, stove and kettle, all there, all safe.  So sorry for you guys, Ava and I are sending cyber punishment to those bleeders, and keep your chin up cyber thoughts to you lot!

Just reading the thread and remembered that about 18 months ago the old indian on the next plot (sorry no disrespect meant but i dont know his name)had his 2 plots burnt down completly,shedsx2,water butts, compost heap, and 2 whole allotment plots. His reaction was total horror. He used to put a lot of work in his allotment but was a nice chap and didnt deserve to have his hard work wasted by a few mindless morons!
He explained in broken english that his heart was broken....He passed away 6 months after this happened, surprise surprise the culprits were never caught!
ok sorry to ramble on
Lyn

Sorry Lyn,

Don't know quite how to answer that!  So full of conflicting thoughts!  Anger and sadness for someone who just wanted to make things grow!  Maybe I should get our local vandals to deliver the stocks on the village green up to you for a week or so!

Kinda makes the loss of a few bits of wood seem irrelevant Lyn, really sad and you can understand why he felt like that.

I can understand stealing stuff, but burning it?  What's the point in that...I guess there's nothing you can do really, except try not to let it get to you and keep on gardening...

poor guy though
