Old Portway Farm
« on: June 14, 2005, 21:45:39 »
Hi there. Ours is not a traditional allotment but a small holding. Was once a large landowners farm pre and post enclosure act. Dates back to early 1500s. Was ran as a working farm pre us and we turned it into a livery yard but kept enough animals for self sufficency. Now the yard is closed and we have sold our own horses so to spend more time with our young son. Only have my 3 dogs now and chickens and farm cats. Dedicating ourselves to vegies now not that we hate meat - love it but we no longer want to be tied down by loads of animals. Done that for over 10 yrs and am 30 this year and need to feel a holiday now and again. Only ever been on 2 in the last 12 years!!!!!!!

We are in the west midlands in Rowley Regis.

Hi, Welcome to A4A.   :) It is interesting to hear about your small holding and also about your organic veggie growing, gleaned from another of your postings.  We don't use any chemicals of any sort on our allotment and I look forward to hearing how you cope organically on a larger scale at your place.  It would be great if you could pass on some of the benefits of your experience.  All the best, busy_lizzie
