Blackcurrants should be planted approx 1.5 - 2m apart. Plant the bush slightly deep, as they send up stems from below ground level. Once established, prune out one third of the stems every year, cutting down to ground level - this ensures a fresh suppy of new stems will come. They appreciate a high nitrogen feed in the first couple of months of spring, and a balanced fertiliser will be useful during subsequent growing months.
