Post by: teresa on May 30, 2005, 16:21:15
Any ideas as to what I have breeding on my sage?

Hi Teresa
It's a little hard to tell but if they look like tiny spiders then that is probably what they are.
Mrs Spider made her nest on your sage and now they have hatched.

I have loads of those in my garden - definitely little yellow spiders.  Absolutely fascinating to watch - still very communal.  If there nest gets damaged - one of mine was in my watering can, they all get to work and build themselves a new one.  I do not know what sort of spider they are or what colour the adult will be - I have no large yellow spiders in my garden.

Well I'm blowed..I was just going to ask about these my son has them on his car, 3 clumps of them covered in webbing., every time you disturb the webbing they run about all over the place fixing it...fascinating to watch, I've just left them there.

They certainly eat each other.

I expect they do.  In a lot of cases the adult female eats the male after they have mated.  I think it's best I say no more  ;D

Have got loads of those - and yes the are treasured and cossetted - we are fans of all things wild and let them get on with things for the most part - I think the baddies are less likely to get out of control if you leave everything alone.  Did not know that they had yellow babies though.
