Title: Rain please
Post by: Mrs Ava on May 26, 2005, 00:02:08
I really don't mind if it rains all night long, but the ground in the garden and at my allotment is so dry it is cracking!  My strawbs are wilting in the garden, my waterbutts are empty again and I have sown seeds at the allotment and a drop of the wet stuff would really get them growing a treat!  I know we don't want rain in the daytime, but a couple of hours of good solid soaking drizzle would make this Essex girl very happy indeedy!

I think it's supposed to get a bit wetter down South over the next few days :-\
We've had the unsettled weather this week, and it's heading your way now ;D

It must be true if the BBC says so! LOL!!!

How far from London are you?

You said it EJ!

Here in Camden Town, we had heavy downpours on Saturday and I was out there trying to catch it in as many containers as I could. Yesterday, I went out to check and the (heavy clay) soil was like cracked concrete!
Mind you, I think it's the wind that's doing the most drying damage. Has it been bad down your way?
The Bank Holiday weather looks like being just as dull and windy as usual, according to Metcheck.  :'(

I think you'll have to flit oop t'north if it's rain you want.  I think Huddersfield must be the wettest place in England.  I don't live there meself but the kids went to uni there and I never, ever visited when it wasn't raining and my sprogs said that it rained constantly.  That's why all the cotton and wool mills etc were built there  - to keep the weft damp, or was it the warp?  ;D

I found lots of water in my butt yesterday so was dead pleased and it was enough to get me seedlings watered and my radishes and lettuces.  To anyone that doesn't have a water butt on their shed you don't know what your're missing.  Unless of course you live in Essex and don't get any rain!.  Sorry to hear of your drought EJ   :(

We are just outside Chelmsford, so about 40 miles from London bunnycat.  Far enough to be rural, close enough to go and play!  ;D

The wind in Essex has been incredibly drying - great for the washing - not so good for my little plants!  If it could just rain all night long, then be sunny all day, my plants (and weeds) would be 6foot6 in no time!  ;D

Ah yes, I'm familiar with Chelmsford. My best mate lived there for a while before moving to Colchester and ending up in Clacton, where she lives now ;D

I'm from Romford originally, very nicely placed with Southend and the sea about 25 miles in one direction and London and the clubs about 25 miles in the other direction ;D I had a very interesting time growing up in the 80's. LOL!!!

Any sign of that rain, yet? It's gorgeous in Leeds today, so the wet weather must be on it's way to you by now ;)

In the Fens. beautiful day yesterday and today. Had some torenntial rain for a while last weekend which nicely dampened everywhere, but the winds have been so strong that garden has started drying out very quickly. Luckily only light wind today. Looks like more sun coming this way for Sat & Sun Happy holiday weekend to all. Lorna.

I agree EJ. As an Essex chap myself can't wait for a bit of proper rain. Been down the lottie today and although everything is hanging in there it's more like a dust bath! It's alright watering with a hose but there is just no substitute for a good old fashion downpour :)

Having said that it really is great to get some warm weather, so in true Brit style I suppose we will always want what we haven't got?
