Title: Sweet Potato.
Post by: Aussie Chick on May 21, 2005, 18:20:58
Hi,
I would like to grow Sweet Potato but I can't find any to buy on the web. I have tried T & M but they are out of stock.  :(

Does anyone know where I can buy some?
Thanks,
Aussie Chick

If you do a search on this site you'll find a few links that tell you how to grow them from shop bought organic ones.

Sorry I can't be more help but I've never grown them myself. Having said that I think you need to start earlier in the year to get a decent crop.

You could always start now so you've got some good 'slips' ready to romp away early next year, but not bother too much about this years crop?

Hope that helps

you could buy organic sweet potatoes and grow the slips yourself for next year.

I ordered some from T&M in April but they still haven't arrived ??? Will it be too late to plant them when or if I do get them?

I read that now is a good time to plant but you can't harvest till September. I haven't grown them before so I could be speaking utter rubbish!

Probably too late if you don't have the slips by June.
You could cultivate slips ready for next year.

I'm waiting for slips to come from T&M too - just chased them and they reckon the next batch will be sent out in next 7-10 days. The delay is due to the Chelsea flower show allegedly ???
I'm still hoping someone will give me suggestions and advice on what to do with them when I get 'em! All I know is you should plant them through black polythene. I've got a thread open on Top Tips... :)
