Millipedes - friend or foe?
What do they do?
If foe - hoe do I get shot of them?
Can't remember which is which until I see them - if it moves fast, it is likely to be a carnivore (predator) so must move fast to catch prey. If it moves slowly, it is likely to be a herbivore or scavenger as its food is unlikely to move very far.
Millipedes are slow-moving, and have two pairs of legs per segment, while centipedes, which are carnivorous, ony have one and usually (not always) move faster. Millipedes will curl up into a spiral when disturbed, and stay put, which centipedes won't. They feed on dead plant material, and can be a minor nuisance. I don't kill them myself, as they must do some good getting rid of rotting dead stuff.
They do eat nice things as well &, right or wrong, I'm afraid I've always squidged them.
They collect them in the US!!
What on earth for ? - I mean collect them.
