Title: Rain!!!!!
Post by: Palustris on May 16, 2005, 16:45:02
Well the promised rain finally arrived, 30 minutes or so of heavy and 2 hours of mist!. But the question is, how much rain is needed to wash the lawn fed, weed and mosskiller into the soil? You are not supposed to walk on the grass until after rain. So how much rain is rain?
AND another point, one bag at £16 did about a fifth of our grass, that's er, er ,er a lot of money to do all the lawns. It is complicated too, dint cut for days before and after, put on when dry but rain due. Apply at 68 grams per sq metre. Heavens you need to be a blooming mathematical weather forecaster. Then don't compost the mowings for the next 6 cuts. No mention of where you put 60 barrow loads of grass cuttings though.
I like clover, moss, daisies, dandelions, ragwort, thistles, oh and a little bit of grass.

Have any of you come across the franchise operation 'Green Thumb'?
They treat your lawns for you four times a year cost of average size lawn is £13.00 per visit

On my travels I have seen a lot of evidence of their work and have to admit that lawns treated by them do stand out from the neighbours who don't use them.

No I am not on commission  ;)

Derek - what's an average sized lawn?

Eric - what's enough? I would like to see at least 15mm for any worthwhile result. Please send us some of yours?

Next door (you saw it earlier) they haven't been allowed on it (new) at all for a month. So we have the children over here!!

ooooooo look at that lawn, like a carpet!  Lovely!!

I am hoping that enough rain falls to fill my empty waterbutts at the allotment and in the garden.  Plus I am certain all of my seeds are lurking just below the surface waiting for a good downpour before they start to grow...the weeds don't care, they were growing anyhow!

I weeded, feeded and seeded my little bit of green, and it looked rough for a while, but now it really does look lush!  Mind you, still a fair bit of clover creeping around, but at least that stays green no matter how dry the lawn!  ;D

I am sure Greenwhoevers would charge a lot more than £13 to do our bits of grass. We reckon there is about 1,000 sq metres of it
I used the water which went into one butt, well I did have to water a plant!
Would be nice for the soil to be just damp enough to get the weeds out at all.

Tim

Well mine is an average sized lawn...yours is more of the 'field' variety albeit a very nice well kept field if you know what I mean  ;D

Well said and point taken
