Edited to remove a duplicate picture ::) ;D
Down in the lottie this morning with my 2 kids, we heard a blackbird making a helluva racket.
I told the kids it was worried about its chicks, but as hard as we looked, we could see no young blackbirds.
Anyway, went back down minus kids this afternoon, and had to unlock the garage (which is on the allotment) to get some tools, and two young blackbirds were sitting on the racking. The garage has one vent-sized hole in it, which they must have got in through, and they couldn't get back out.
So I opened the big doors and one flew out to freedom, and the other one eventually flew out of the small door, straight into the shed, where it was trapped again!
Must like hiding places, that one....anyway, I chased it out and all was well.
I also had a robin within a couple of feet of me. A good day. :)
Fantastic pictures Roy, out of interest , do Blackbirds tend to nest in hedges?
Ah how lovely. My nest is a hedge sparrow, I think, hard to get a picture as its in the middle of a very prickly bush. Not hatched yet.

Oh Roy, these pics are fantastic. I do hope you can do another scarlet pimpernel and grab some other shots as they get a little older.
Honeybee, yes Blackbirds nest mainly in the hedges :)
:-[ Sorry being a novice, it's a Pyracantha growing up the wall near our front living room, not sure if it's a bush or a hedge, its very thorny :o the nest is centre screen not that you can see it.
These birds work their butts off, I have a CCTV Camera covering our front garden and I have been watching them flying off almost into the dark of night in search of food, I thought it was the early bird that catches the worm? not in the case of the Blackbird it isn't. :P
I will try and keep you updated, but my wife has warned me to keep well away when Mum & Dad are at home. :o

Great photo's Roy, out of interest what camera are you using and was it in any sort of closeup mode.
The blackbirds are nestinmg in my neighbours hedge this year. The reason you see them so late in the evening is it is only the Blackbird and Robin that can actually see at low light levels all the other birds are roosting. They are also the first birds you see at dawn. They must be exhausted with all that feeding by the end of the day?
Regards
Chriszog
;) Thanks for that info Chriszog, I never new that ;) the camera is a Kodak DX 3600 with Digital zoom although I have not sussed out how to use it yet ::) I did use a close up setting from the menu in these shots. ;)
Sorry that my aim was was not true but the nest is above head height and those thorns are very very sharp :o
Wonderful photos Roy ! Those babies are gorgeous  ;D
They have flown their nest today, four little fledglings, I just hope our neighbours two cats don't get a look in as they are very much outdoor cats :o

Oh thats good news Roy, i wonder if you will see them bobbing about, you will have to let us know :)
Oh ! What a little beauty Roy !!  ;D
Let's hope they manage to survive ! Dodgy few days ahead of them.
Good news Roy. Hope they come along nicely.
I got bad news on the Blackbirds today. Me and Ted next door have shared two Blackbird nests and one of the Females was killed against my conservatory window this morning.  :o :o :o
:( Oh what a wicked shame :( I wonder if Dad will continue feeding them? I do hope so, they work their little butts off them Blackbirds you know, dusk til dawn :'(
Oh I know they do. I am giving them a big hand as well!!! Soaked Bread, soaked raisons, oats. Think we have 3 pairs going back and forwards to the nests, and off course the male blackbirds are fighting in between times. I think their nests are all too close together so they are in each others territories. I know there is 2 blackbird nests in one hedge just 3ft apart, but thats one of the females gone so I am scared to look, really am.... It will upset me so wont. There is also a Thrush nesting in the same hedge but she hasnt ventured near my garden.Â
Any news Roy ? Have you seen them hopping around the garden looking for a juicy worm for brekkers ?  ;D
;D Hi Di I saw one baby yesterday in the pyracanthas there's plenty of fresh blackbird poo running down the window sill and piracanthas so mum and dad are still active :o ;D not seen the remaining three :-\ hope the pesky cats next door haven't had em >:(
Thanks for sharing it with us Roy.Love the photos.Hope the birds are all doing fine.
  All The Best-Marky :)
Here's a couple of questions for the experts, we have another blackbird (or could it be the same one?) that appears to be carrying nesting material higher up into our piracantha bush can't see a nest yet though, why don't blackbirds use old nests, and do blackbirds have more than one breeding session in one season?
I'm just trying to workout if this blackbird is the same one that has just had a family and wants more?
what gorgeous pics Roy very lucky to have them nesting right on your door step
Hi Roy
I'm no expert but we do get blackbirds nesting in the garden every years. We've had as many as four breeding pairs. They do occasionally use old nest, and the number of broods depends on how early they started breeding. Generally it's 2 or 3 but you can get a 4th ::)
MM
Also meant to say the pictures are wonderful and did you know that as a rule when they leave the nest and still being fed, they are split between the adults. If there are only 3 not sure who get just the one, probably mr blackbird ;D
;D Thanks for that MM ;) that was very interesting, glad to hear Dad carries on his duties after they leave the nest ;D
:D
One of the fledglings (blackbird) was perched on our bedroom window sill this morning and it was getting such a telling off from the male blackbird. You would imagine it was being told off just like a child. 'Get down from there, you dont go there'.
;D ;D ;D
As promised, ;D I managed to get a quick snap of the brand new baby Blackbirds, second lot of babies this year so far, :-* aren’t they…arrrgh! Oops! ;D Cute. :) :-*

Beautiful pictures Roy.
:)
Wonderful pictures - and the babies do remind you that they're the descendants of dinosaurs ;D
Incidentally, we've had the same nest used for several years in a pyracantha, usually for two broods a year.
Roy ;D  Special request for fluffy pics please ;D
I just find viewing them has such a calming affect  ;)  :D  ;D
::) Oh sugar! I meant to snap em today whilst clearing the front garden, I could here them tweetering after food from mum near the nest, I will endeavour to do it tomoz ;)
My Daughter tells me there are 4 chicks again ;D
Brill !! ;D  Look forward to them.
P.S. Will keep you out of mischief for a while  ;) :D ;D
As promised update on the new family of blackbirds, :) I am amazed at the speed these little chicks grow, :o It has been barely a week since I took the previous images. :o ;D

fingers & toes are firmly crossed that your neighbours cats don't catch them .
my neighbour's quite proud that her cats deposits little birds/presents for her all over the place >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
fab pics :)
Lovely pics Roy. Have also heard that, apart from using old nests, balckbirds wil also build a couple of nests in the spring and then take their pic. Was told this when one was build in my passionflower and then didn't nest in it. Don't know if true.
Thanks for the update Roy, wonderful pics ;D Not much elbow room in there !!  :D
:o Wow Four days on and they are out of the nest and bobbing around still waiting for food off Mum & Dad, I do hope they get away B4 the two local cats get a whiff of them. :o
Couldn't you just Ford Ka a cat :o ;D (just teasing) ;D
