Beautiful Tim.  I have a peony but it has never flowered.  I have now transferred it to a pot and it is putting on alot of nice leaf growth so hopefully some buds to follow.  Are they difficult plants to grow I wonder :-\

Gorgeous!  Have one I grew from seed a couple of years back.  Keeps growing but I fear it will be a couple more years yet before it is big enough to flower!

They are beautiful Tim.  I don't see them as often as I used to.  They always remind me of my mother who used to call them "peeny roses" .   :) :( busy_lizzie

Common or gaden to those who have them in their garden, Tim.  Something special to those who dont.

I was meaning, of course, the 'common' (original, I think) version before they started to produce all the colours you can see on google's 'tree paeony'.

Hi Gardengirl,

Don't know about tree Paeonies, but the ordinary ones won't flower if they are planted too deep. They like their tubers to be just below the surface. They apparently don't like getting moved either, I moved one from my garden to my Mum's garden (moved in September) and they are now coming into flower  ;D

Thanks everso for the info Ladybird :)  Mine was originally planted very near to some conifers (was here when we moved) and it has never bloomed so I thought I would pot it up and see what happened.  Maybe I will leave it in its pot now and hope that it flowers - will post a photo if it does :D  Thanks again :)

These must be the most bomb proof plant about. I had to move ours as it was getting really intrusive. Every little bit of root that was left in the ground started shooting again. So I potted them all up and they are even flowering in their pots. The plant was about 30 years old and is thriving in its new position. I think it is a species  paeony. I put a few of them on Ebay and they averaged about £7 a plant. I also sell them at plant sales at £6 and sell out every time, so I am just going to fill up some more pots with the small plants that are still coming up from the chopped up roots. I would be interested to know if there is a name to this colour which is the same as mine, (see 'first iris' second forum) as most of the flowers I have seen on other peoples plants are yellow.

Only bombproof if your dog doesn't eat the root though  :(
