Spotted this little fella behaving like a woodpecker. In fact it was the pecking at this hole that drew my attention to it. This bird is only slightly bigger than a sparrow. Sorry it's not too clear, I got as close as I could.

Well the picture's not too clear, but looks like a nuthatch to me....
It certainly looks close, Robin. I know they sometimes take over old woodpecker holes and make large ones smaller, but this was definately hammering at the partial hole to make it bigger. Have to gp back with my video cam.
I can't see the bird ???
Where is it?
There, no there, right in the middle, clear as day.
(Don't look too hard or it'll disappear) ;)
I think it's a nuthatch. If it was doing a lot of it's poking about 'upside down' then that would make it even more likely - erm, but I am guessing a bit (& squinting)
;)
:D :D
Can't see the actual bird but see the colours and immediately said Nuthatch. Unless off course its another Dunnock with a different coat on.....
Nuthatch it is ;D ;D ;D
Nuthatch - spotted it straight away as I spent ages trying to get a photograph of one recently. Well captured!!! ;D
hahahahahahah Carol !! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
Its a NUTHATCH Ken ;D ;D ;D
I think Nuthatch too. You can see it's robin eye mask...as in batman and robin.
I agree with everyone else, it's a Nuthatch.
Yes I agree its something....I can only see the hole.
can you see this val ? looks like a nuthatch to me but no expert
A Nuthatch always remind me of the Concord with it's shape,l think we have a family of them in the garden as they are always around, but the other day l saw one the same shape hammering away at the tree, bet he's gotta a headache ;D but it was the same colouring as a Sparrow ??? l was told it was a fledgling, but it was the same size as the adults :o
Ah yes got it...whew thats a relief , I saw some first young sparrows in the garden today, all fluffed up and mum busy feeding them. I swelled up with pride too, well I've been putting water, and food out for mum, so take a bit of credit. Isn't nature great.
o god its not a dunnock is it?
just kiddin! ;D
nuthatch-deffo!

Definitely a Nuthatch,100 % sure.
