Title: Sweet Potatoes
Post by: Marley Farley on May 11, 2005, 07:55:04
:) Hi, I have been wondering, can we grow sweet potatoes here?  ???I have never seen any seed potatoes for them. Is our climate too cold? We love them & eat quite allot of them they are so versatile, but it always comes back to, can we grow them. It would be so nice to have them fresh. Maybe containers for growing? Any info greatly received. :)

I have seen them in one of the seed catalogues. They are sold as "slips" rather than seed potatoes.
Sorry I can't remember which one - maybe T & M or dobies?

Hi Marley Farley,

take a look at the following link within this website or run a search on "sweet potatoes", A4All is excellent, people are sharing so much experience, just about everything you can think of growing, somebody's already grown it and written about it!

Hope it works....

I found out on this forum that you can grow sweet pots from slips.  The supermarket ones are often treated with something to stop them sprouting but if you buy organic ones they don't have this and can be propagated from.  The info has been posted on here somewhere so you won't have to look very far  ;D

:) Hi Wardy I shall give it a try. Dan gave me a link on here which was really handy. I only buy organic & there is one in the shed that looks quite viable so am off to try. Thanks ;D
