Title: Broad beans
Post by: Marianne on May 09, 2005, 21:35:26
Hi

My OH is building me a "raised bed" made of bricks on one of the patios.  I intend transplanting my broad beans in there as soon as possible as for the moment they are growing very quick in a tub of margarine !  ;D  I am just worried as the tub is about 2 1/2" high and I understand BB have long roots?

Does anyone know how long I have before transplanting them safely in their new home?  Do they need staking?
::) ???  Thank you very much for any response.   :D ;)

I would get them is as soon as possible, would aim for within 2 weeks especially if they are hardened off. Try to keep root disturbance to a minimum.

I do not stake individual plants but run a couple lengths of string at different hieghts along the row to help support the rows in the wind.

(Noticed nice pods forming on autumn sown beans at the weekend)
