Ani,

You don't really need instructions - just stand 4 pallets on end and wire them up in the corners. But try http://digitalseed.com/composter/bins/palletbin.html

Phil

A key thing to remember if you want compost qucikly is to cover the contents with somethibg like a square of old carpet to retail the heat

Thanks Phil, I'm having new carpets in a couple of rooms tomorrow so I shall take the old stuff down to the lottie and make good use of it. That is providing I can persuade my neighbour to transport it for me :)

Ani, best to use hessian backed if you can as foam backed gets messy after a bit.  Good luck.  Lance

Luckily my carpet is hessian backed. There are 2 long pieces...stairs and landing, that I think I will use on the paths and 2 rectangle ones (was one big lounge carpet but too big to maneuver/handle) that I know I will make good use of.  ;D

Ani,

A "good use" for the large bits is to cover unoccupied ground overwinter, having spread compost/FYM first.

This:

keeps down the weeds
allows the worms to incorporate the compost/FYM in the top 4" where it is most needed
reduces leaching of nutrients
is easier than digging

Thanks. made my compost bin today. Took time owing from work so I could be home for the carpets to be fitted, didn't take long so spent the afternoon in lottie making compost bin (amongst other things). Neighbour has said he'll take old carpet to lottie tomorrow evening, I guess I'll take a bear down for him, might get him digging as well ;D ;D ;D

Just a beer and my rear but he wasn't interested in that! The gardening gear was already down there, though the dear lent an ear to hear my tale of woe when I saw the frost blackened tips of my spuds and shed a tear. ;D
