Title: strawberries and toms in containers
Post by: Rox on May 04, 2005, 08:42:24
can anyone advise on whether 1) yellow balconi toms (a drawf) can grow well in a 5 1/2" container per plant or whether this would be too small? if so, what is the ideal container size for this variety? 2) is a 8 1/2" or 9 1/2" hanging basket enough for a strawberry plant?

many thanks in advance for any advice!!  :)

I think you'll get away with 5 1/2" pots for Balconi Yellow. I haven't got my ruler (or pot) by me but I don't think pots I use are that big. I've grown them for a few years, indoors, as an 'extra early' before the green house ones come in.

I'd have though your hanging basket was big enough too -bigger than the pots I've used in the past.

Rox, I'd say that more than one strawberry could go in to a hanging basket that size. 4 or 5 at least. (I put 10 strawbs in a grow bag last year)
