Tim,

I've always thought of them as "chives with attititude", they don't die back in winter but soldier on through giving "chive leaves" and "spring onions" all year round. A very useful herb/veg.

I believe it comes from their upbringing in Siberia (welsh meaning foreign in this case)

they are fantastic veg, they will self seed everywhere too. Theres no need to cut the flowers off, as they dont affect the culinary aspect.

I bought a bunch at RHS Wisley when I was seeing my ex, who had Welsh ancestry! Thought it would be amusing. The onions lasted longer than her!!!!! :P

i'm growing the red and thwe white variety this year for the first time-mainly because i've lost count of the times i looked in the store and said'b****r!no onions!' :(
in the city-i could nip to the corner shop-here i must be better prepared!

mine grow all bunched up together .....do I nee to dry them out before separating them...I thought you just ate the green stalks
