Title: Angelica
Post by: Mrs Ava on April 29, 2005, 18:36:30
I can't remember who it was now that had trouble getting Angelica to grow.  Well here is my patch or angelica.  Seeds were from the RHS seed scheme a few years back and did me a treat!  The flowers are already begining to come!

Lovely EJ !
It was probably me complaining that it never self-seeds for me !!  ::)  Same with fennel, don't know why  ???   I never tidy up in the autumn, because I love to discover new self-sown seedlings in the spring !  Luckily they both seed profusely in my friend's garden, so I go scrounging    ;)   ;D

You candy it, EJ?
Or what else?

Mum did Tim, but hasn't for a while.  It is there because I love the smell when we brush past, because the insects love it, because it helps disguise the shed and greenhouse behind it, because it is lush, which Ava adores, and because, why not.  ;D

Looks gorgeous.

I just bought some seed and it says doesn't like transplanting. Did you sow yours direct or in pots? Do slugs like it?

EJ - Didn't mean to insult Angelica - just thought it a bit exotic for a screen?

Aqui - Bay grows well from cuttings - & I've never seen a slug approach it.

Tim - thanks, but I meant the Angelica!

Amazingly enough, though, Bay is one of the few common herbs I don't have. Now who do I know with one...?

I sowed the seed in modules Aqui, a couple of years back, and I allow mine to flower.  If you remove the flower the plants will be longer lived, but it did seed a little, but not out of control, and I don't want it for the herby point of view, I wanted it for a lush lime green, sweetly scented screen.

Pest free also!  ;D

Going to use some angelica this afternoon to make rhubarb and angelica jam.  The angelica softens the acidity and sharpness of the bubby.  YUM!
