Its gorgeous. I think clematis are my most favourite plant. I only have a backyard and use them to cover the walls and an arch. I have 5 at the mo.

hi maz
well the plant itself is over 6 feet as it is climbing up a homemade arch and along a bit of the top but I think you should cut it down a lot after flowering to generate new growth and so make it more bushy and each year I mean to but . . . . . . . . . .  perhaps this year I will be ruthless.   ???
the flowers are about 2 and a half inches and I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying it doesn't appear to get frost damage!
I'm not normally very successful with clematis but this one seems to do well every year and my hagley hybrid which is in a large pot also seems to do OK.  might posts a photo of that when it comes into bloom. :)

Hello Merlins Mum. I read that you were thinking of being ruthless with your clematis this year, and I hope you don't mind but I think your clematis is in pruning group 1, which would indicate that it won't really appreciate being hard pruned! You could probably get away with pruning some of it back but don't over do it!

(I believe it's also known as Markham's Pink by the way)

Yes I think you are right it is also known as markham's pink, I was being posh, haha  ;D ;D
Thanks for the tip about pruning I will check again to make sure.  I do know that if it is pruned it should be after flowering.   :)

MM I have a Hagley Hybrid too. Its been flowering year after year for about 15 years now. I love it , its my fav plant in the garden because its never let me down. Also The wall its climbing on is 6' high and it just reaches the top each year. Perfect planting or luck?   :-X   You decide!  ;D

Oooo I feel a photo shoot coming on!  ;D

Perfect planting I reckon, clever girl  ;D

I think my problem is I try to cram too much into a small space and clematis are greedy plants aren't they.

I will look forward to pix
