Can anyone direct me to any companies that sell seeds of old-style veggie varieties?
Have a gander at the Real Seed Company over here http://vidaverde.co.uk/index.html, and see what you think. Also there is the HDRA at http://www.hdra.org.uk/ which has a heritage seed library.
For a lovely read, as well of oodles of old varieties try Thomas Etty http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~nfarley/thomas-etty/vegetables/intro.htm, you'll need adobe acrobat reader to download the catalogue (do get the larger file version, it has the most marvellous line drawings)...
:)
Gadfium,
Thanks for the links - will check out. :D
Thomas Etty is your man (or would be if he existed)
The Heritage Seed Library (part of HDRA) is open to members only (~£12 per year for HDRA members) it sends out a catalogue in Oct/Nov of some 200 veg varieties (from its selection of ~700) Members choose 6 varieties for free, as part of the membership. But this year's catalogue is now closed

If your looking for different veg, have a look at the veg sections in my website (link on the left)
Phil,
Thanks a lot for that. ;D
I remember seeing something on television about the Heritage Seed Library, only I couldn't remember what they were called. I shall join in time for next year as I would be keen to try out odd/old varieties every now again.
I shall check out your link as well after sending this.
Hi All, here's a site that might help http://www.secretseeds.com/acatalog/Spring_Sale.html
all the best
windy :) :)
Windy,
I didn't spot too many vegetables on that site - and it took forever to download because of all the pictures - it was well over 2MB on my phone line that is approx 10mins download time!!
Full details of the HSL is at http://www.hdra.org.uk/hsl (only 150 KB altogether)
