Hello
I am thinking a buying a polytunnel for my allotment and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice as to the best place to buy one.
I have done all the searches and looked at Northern Polytunnels and LBS etc but has anyone else bought one from these manufacturers and can comment on the quality or are there other suppliers who do it cheaper and better.
Any help, advice, comments or links appreciated.
Thanks
beaker

Hello
I am thinking of 10' x 10' or 15'.
I'll 'dig' out my copy of GYO and have a look.
Thanks

check with your lottie rules before you buy :-[
Good point Waggi ,We have just stoped a guy halfway through erecting a 20foot by 60 foot polytunnel till it comes before comittee meeting ...
He seemed surprised anyone would bother.
But how much water is it going to take to keep a beast like that watered.
We are pretty liberal with water but it is on a meter .
So If I was You beaker I would ask if there is any restrictions on polly tunnels as in size and permission to erect em ....Cheers jim...
This is a pic of it half erected...
Good grief :o
beaker - there are instructions on the www for building your own polytunnel which I downloaded and it certainly looks do-able. I've been handing copies out to folks on the plots. I'll go and have a look for the link .....

we got our 10ft x 10 ft from first tunnels and have been very happy with it. it took longer to put up than the one day described.....try a weekend after all the ground had been cleared and prepared. we have had a great winter crop out of it and hope for a great summer. first tunnels also do a great credit scheme to get your tunnel..that s the only we got ours..... :o
get base rails as they make a differance to the tension you get in the plastic...more work but worth it. and you dont have to dig as hug a trench for the plastic. base plates are really great to help stabilise the tunnel. the biggest struggle we had we ensuring the tunnel was square and the sides straight before putting on the plastic. it took us a weekend to finish it.
we filled four beds in it from a recipe for home made soil from the sqfoot gardening site. it has great water retention. we got a good winter crop. ;D
if your committee allows try get the biggest one allowed as you will find you want more and more space in it....its the nature of poly tunnels! :P
we got the antifog plastic as this helped to keep condensation from dripping down and causing disease. get a crop bar or two dependeing on size as you use these to support wires string etc to support crops.
good luck in deciding.....if I knew how to put a photo on we could show you our tunnel and the building progress......
