Title: Alllotment Associations.... What to Do?
Post by: MarthaMad on April 12, 2005, 12:10:09
Our allotment does not have a governing association, but the Council is suggesting that we form one or else!  (They sent a well worded - threat filled letter soliciting support)

I have volunteered to participate, but I have absolutely no clue what would be expected from me...

The council boff said that as soon as she got enough response she would contact us and sort out the details...

Does any one have experiences to share on responsibilities?

Deos the letter they sent describe what the 'or else' includes?

I am assuming that they want you to set up an assosiation that deals with renting out plots yourself and so free the council of the burdon of doing it.

Hi

This sounds like the Council pushing you into a self management scheme...you can lots of information from the NASLG website...if you decide to go down this route don't be bullied and spread the takeover over several years.

Hey, and it had better be worth handing over to you ???

Fencing, water supply, repairs, major maintenance jobs BEFORE the council hand it over?

All best - Gavin

Not to mention running the plot shop, buying, hiring out shredder, strimmers etc and organising oil and petrol, selling refreshments as well as seed taters, seeds, compost etc.  Dishing out advice, cutting grass paths, organising open days, applying for funding ...... etc etc etc  ;D

hi guys

see my portable lottie posts, but I'm looking for basic info on running a lottie site. how much do people pay for a plot and what does a plot consist of ... don't really understand poles ... can I have it in centimetres or inches please.

i'm hoping to get the church and town council to agree to let us cultivate for a few years more, and need some facts and figures to back up my case!!

yikes, like i don't have enough to do.
