Anybody know where i can get hold of a vinegar culture or "mother" to make some wine vinegar

I was looking for the solution to this problem about a year ago.
The answer seems to be BUT I haven't tried it yet, to leave some organic wine vinegar (all the other commercially avalable stuff tends to be sterilised and so "dead") in an open bowl in a warm place.
I read somewhere that a mould will form and this then is the "mother"

I did go so far as to buy some organic vinegar I'll try it now
excellent, thanks for the idea Phil, i'd forgotten i'd posted this question to tell the truth.
i have left a bottle of organic wine in a jar, hoping it would develop a mother but no such luck as yet even after 3-4 months.
