If only there was an easy answer to this!  I have lost loads and loads of citrus because of scale insect.  The only way I know is to painstakingly go over the plant with a matchstick squishing each and ever one.  Then do it again in a couple of days, then again in a couple of days and so on and so on!  I also tried wiping the plant over with a very weak soft soap solution, but I still lost the plant.  Given up on them now.  I don't believe there is a chemical or organic spray on the market any more to deal with the problem.  :-\

I read somewhere about using meths on a cotton-bud, then wash the plant with warm soapy water

I have this problem with my lime, lemon and orange.  But then I also grow Oleanders in the same conservatory and they are renowned for getting scale. In previous years I have washed them down 2-3 times a year which controls it but does not get rid of it.  They are getting too big to keep washing so last week I used Provado concentrate which is supposed to be the best systemic control around.  Very expensive!!  I sprayed the leaves as it said in the instructions but I am sure I heard somewhere that you can water it into the soil which would be less messy.  Must Google it!  I am waiting and hoping now that it works.  They are growing well and are a mass of flowers.
