Any advice on Huckleberries? Have a tray full and want to know what to do with them now. I believe they are annuals. ;D
Tried some in 2003 - can't remember what happened to them. perhaps pot them up, harden off, then bung outside!
I grew them last year in my polytunnel, but they'll do ok outside in a sheltered position. Mine suffered extreme heat, drought, red spidermite and still produced enough to make into a wonderful purple jam (used Redcurrant Jelly recipe)
:)I grew them for several years outside in a sheltered position, in the Glasgow area. Raise from seed inside and plant outside when all danger of frost is over. Fruited very well, late September or October, but think that they are an acquired taste. There is not enough natural acid in the fruit, more like a vegetable, and they need the addition of lemon juice.
I also found that they seeded themselves naturally, but these seedlings grew too late to fruit well.
