;D Have just found this website being bored at work and surfing the net. Don't tell anyone ;). It seems to be fabulous and full of useful information without those know-alls you get when happily digging ;), 'oohh, you shouldn't be doing it that way' is one of our local favourites!!!Â
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. After getting my allotment early last year which was very overgrown I managed to get a few bits dug over and loads of potatoes and onions grown as well as summer stuff!!! Anyway, being me I was then very lazy (or rather ran out of time with work and a baby) and didn't dig over in Autumn. Consequently I went down last night and started the hard task. Very nice though, lovely evening spend weeding. Hopefully I will manage to get my potatoes and onions in this weekend and have managed to convince the other half to come down and do some hard graft with me this weekend, although I'm not sure how long he will last :-\.Â
And I'm getting 2 chickens too. Very excited about that but am not keeping them at my allotment but at home. Unfortunately I have to drive to the allotment so it's not very practical. Anyway, I hope to get to know you all and hear of all those fabulous triumphs over the next few months. Will keep you all up to date with the chickies when they arrive!!! ;D
Hi Lazybones and welcome to the site!
Keeping up with everything on the plot when you have other things going on in your life is hard. And during winter, you lose all those evenings don't you? But if you enjoy it, and you opbviously do - don't get downhearted, do what you can and stick to the easy stuff.
The chicken thing sounds very exciting - wish I had space for some!
Sarah.
Hi, welcome Lazybones :)
I also have chickens in the garden (three), they're lovely and it's great to get fresh eggs every day, the children love collecting the eggs.
I'd love to have chickens but I think egg production could be quite low given our cats. The allotment is just to far away to make keeping them there feasible :'(.
Anyway welcome aboard Lazybones.
Bodolph
I have a cat and have spoken to the Company I am getting them from and apparently chickens are secret ninjas ;) when it comes to animals and they can certainly fight off anything smaller than a medium sized dog (or fox as we all know too well). Apparently a couple of pecks on the nose normally does the trick but I will keep you posted on that one.Â
Hi lazybones welcome,
hope you find this place as helpful as I do.
Keep us informed about the chucks
