I grew two Welsh onion plants from seed last year and was looking forward to a good crop this year. Nothing worth having in the first season. So far this year I have two sorry looking plants with about four stems each....

What did I do wrong?

I've got about 20 large clumps of welsh onions that I inherited with my plot. Last time I looked (saturday) there were no flowers. Am I right in thinking that when I dig up a clump I should put one onion back in the soil and it will re-grow into another clump?

I grew mine from seed last spring & I now have about a dozen plants, each with about 3 or 4 bulbs, more than half are flowering but I was browsing through one of Joy Larkcom's books earlier & it did mention that they flower early.
