I had my plot rotavated early this week and its now a fine tilth. Conditions were near perfect for it even on our clayey soil.
I have usually left it about a week before planting or sowing to allow the soil to settle. What do others do? Would you leave it longer or just start more or less straight away?
I'd sow straight away.. if it stays dry it will cap easily...
About 20 years!
. By then nature may have repaired the damage done to soil structure and organisms.
I have had a rotavator for about 40 years and have always rotavated my plot but left it for about a week before I sow any seeds but only a few days for potatoes, just for the ground to settle down.
Yes MervF
that's why I usually have left it a week after rotavation. In my early days I planted some onions and shallots soon after rotavation which after a week stood proud barely attached to the soil.
