I have been plagued with slugs and snails on my new plot this year. Slug pellets are really only a temporary measure as after a week or so when the pellets have disappeared, the slugs come back for second helpings. If I could put something on the ground now while it is wet, no crops in the ground and there are likely to be plenty of slugs and snails looking for a feed, it seems the ideal time to put something down. Can anyone recommend anything?
I am not sure that getting rid of slugs now will be a permanent solution. I expect they have already laid eggs which will then hatch in the spring. Hoeing can help bring them to the surface for the birds to find.
I find slug pellets effective but there is a need to repeat. Another is to appear at dawn and pick them off before they have time to hide.
What you need is a pig, they are mightily fond of slugs and snails!! and they find the eggs as well.
