Title: Asparagus on the way...
Post by: Sarah-b on March 31, 2005, 10:02:53
Apparently our asparagus crowns have been dispatched from Kent - but we are going away at the weekend. If they arrive today we might just have time to unpack them - if we can't plant until Tuesday, how much of a disaster is that? Or should we go down the plot in the dark and wet tonight and plant them?

Worrying as usual...
Sarah.

If they arrive, at least heel them in - they must not dry out.

And/or - check with supplier - Ken Muir (?) - that they are in moist material, in plastic bags. If so, they should last. No neighbours?

Well, if we don't get our hands on them tonight, I'll have to leave instructions with my Mum to ensure they don't dry out then.
Or maybe should cancel weekend away in Ross-on-Wye? (wouldn't be popular choice I'm sure!!)

I got mine in earlier this week and I have just got my first white shoot (should it be white?).  Should I earth them up as I go along - as per the packet instructions, or should I leave it and fill in the hole in Autumn as it says on the 'growing vegetables on a Leeds Allotment' site?
