.........Rhubarb. I noticed on another thread that the first plant on the allotment was Rhubarb, Yum, Yum. This was also my first plant on my own allotment - this season and either Potatoes or Broad Beans on the plot I share with a friend - last season.
After all the hard graft of digging your new plot what was the first thing you planted. :)
rhubarb, blackcurrants and gooseberries already there when I took over a plot 4 years ago, lucky me :D
Onions and potatoes were the first things I actually planted. Now have a long list of veg that have taken a lot of trail and error to get right. I keep trying new things, this year I thought I'd try sweet potato, has anyone had any success with them?
Yep, rhubarb for me too. Followed closely by garlic, spring cabbage and strawberries. Such a great feeling when you finally get to the planting stage after all the initial digging and weeding.
Garlic ;D

Likewise! With a few apple trees too. There were also broad beans and volunteer potatoes as well as the previous season's leeks and parsnips.
First thing I planted were onion sets. Followed by French beans.
moonbells
Leeks, given to me by my new neighbour, closely followed by bubby, thanks Teresa. ;D
I havent been able to plant anything yet the place was such a mess :o
but we already have Rhubarb which we ate some on monday with fresh cream and it was yummy. we also have strawberries raspberries gooseberry ..... we also had some pots left in so dug them up and tried but most were useless
Also leeks given by the neighbor allotmenteer.
After I planted them he came over to look and asked how I thought I would get white stems. Ehhmmmm, you get white stems if no light gets to that part. Right, he said and how do you think you'll get that, planted the way you did? Ehhmmm, maybe they grow down like carrots? I've come a long way in the 5 years since hehehe.
in our garden we inherited gooseberry, rhubarb and blackcurrant, all of which i moved, they weren't in an ideal place.
shortly after i planted raspberries (autumn), leeks and broad beans.
it's interesting to cast my mind back a couple of years to when i started, i remember all my tomatoes were grown outside, planted out late and i got a single red tomato off them all! :-[ we live and learn!
rhubarb, goosegogs, pots!
Garlic, followed closely by more garlic!!!
nunions and broad beans
