Dulcie eats too much usually, but has spent 3 days on the dishwasher in the old cupboard. He tried to get in the cat flap backwards, seems to know me. OH half says he is OK, I think he has a fit or a stroke, as doesn't follow me about and just wants to sleep in the cupboard. Very worried about him. Will ring the vet tomorrow if he is not better, but he knows me, not too sure about his sight. OH says I am Miss Panic Button, but I know my cat.
Hope Dulcie is ok and you get good news
Best get him checked by the vet, if only to set your mind at ease. He may have had an incident, as you think, or he may have had a close shave with a vehicle or some other thing that has hurt him..
Hope this is only temporary and he will be back to his old cheeky self soon.
I agree, taking him to see the vet is the best idea, it does sound like he's not feeling right. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and he'll be back on his feet soon!
He came off the dishwasher and asked for food this morning, so must be feeling better. Back on the dishwasher in the cupboard which is good as OH is doing clearing out the lean to. Will keep an eye on him and hopefully tomorrow when things are back to normal he will be his old self. Did have a new boiler fitted but he seemed OK with that and the noise. Shame animals can't talk. I think something frightened him a couple of nights ago when he was out late and not in our garden, which is not like him, or maybe he has a girlfriend, although he has been neutered. Obviously will have to be vet if he is not better soon. Thanks for listening. :sunny:
If you leave it too long he may be suffering unnecessarily and may have something that is harder to treat for being left.
If he's not right, get him checked sooner rather than later.
We all have our off days and feel under parr for no reason Animals are the same But best get him checked out to put your mind at rest
I knew that something was wrong with Dulce, so booked an appointment for tomorrow at the vets, then OH said he has just been sick on the dishwasher in the cupboard and ring the vet, so we got an emergency appointment at 7 pm in Enfield, and the vet was brilliant, even though he did another poo in the carrier, which they cleaned up for the 3rd time. Then we had to drive to Barnet to the emergency vet, as they said it was serious, not the poo, but he couldn't wee, so we have left him there for blood tests, etc. said it couldnt wait any longer as was urgent, so he will be in for 3 days, will cost over £600, which is OK, but if the blood tests not OK, or other problems we have to make a decision when I get the results. Got home at 9 pm and had a few tears, but suppose the vet is the best place for him, I do love that cat, and I just knew he was acting strange. No we hadn't got pet insurance but I have a few premium bonds I can cash in. Well Barnet animal hospital is quite posh, so hopefully they will look after him, they will ring me tomorrow.
He's in good hands Borlotti, I hope they can get him sorted out really quickly. Must be really uncomfortable for him if he can't wee, poor thing.
Got good treatment from the vet at Enfield at the vet at Barnet last night, no waiting and treated straight away. Not the same can be said for the National Health Service recently. Vet rang at 9 this morning, he is on a catheter and pain management. Apparently this condition can progress very quickly so hopefully we got him to the vet in time. She even asked what food he likes (fish), so he is in the best place. Will be at least 3 days he has stay there. I didn't realise this condition is common in male cats, hopefully blood tests will be clear and he will be home soon.
Very upsetting, I know what you mean re loving your cat. Hope you have good news soon. It sounds like they are caring and he is in a good place.
(If its any consolation we are stopping insuring ours and saving it instead, as find with older animals they just hike it up anyway and we pay a packet each month for years)
I've heard a lot of people put aside money each month instead of paying for insurance. I haven't insured my rabbits either because none of the policies cover dentals which are commonly needed with Netherland Dwarfs like mine.
I do however have both bunnies and my cat Pixel on a "vaccinations for life" scheme at £99 each which is a real bargain.
Hope Dulce is feeling better today and munching his fish!
Dulce is home from the vets, as he wasn't eating and very stressed. He seems OK now apart from the fact he can't go out for 7 days, and keeps head butting the cat flap and has to use a dirt tray which he thinks is for sleeping in. He is having a short nap on the bed whilst I type. Loads of pills, which will be a problem to get down him and change of cat food when we go back in 7 days.
So pleased you have him home :) Hoping he is felling more himself soon :)
Hi Ya, how is dulce doing? hope he is on the mend and looking good, what did they say was wrong? I know how you feel as I would be heartbroken if any of my pets were poorly. Fingers crossed
He has had a good weekend at home, apart from the fact he can't go out, and has to take 6 tablets a day, and 2 mouth squirts, but are a pain to do. He hasn't done a poo, or a wee in the dirt box, so have made an appointment for tonight at 4.45 pm. Apparently if they have a blockage and can't wee, in 3 - 6 days they die, and not weeing was affecting his brain. Have found the best way to get him to take pills is a tin of sardines, cut out the small bones and hide them in the liquid. Think he did wet a bit on my old fleece last night, and my trousers this morning, which I was very pleased about (which is a funny thing to say) he is having a lovely sleep now so seems a shame to take him to the vet again, but can't let him suffer if he cant pee. Bloods test all OK, but apparently male cats and men can get a blockage which is very painful and dangerous. Probably will pee and poo in the carrier as he hates cars, carriers and vets. He is asleep and I am very worried, as really can't face having to put him to sleep, but vets know best and don't want him to suffer. Hopefully just a check up and he can come home tonight. Yesterday when it was so hot, did open the lean to door to inside not outside and he had a lovely sleep in there. Bless. No more animals. Not really want him to have to go on the catheter again, but he may have to, vet knows best and the High Barnet vet are brilliant, but it is costing me a fortune.
I find it helps to crush pills with a teaspoon and hide the contents in a bit of mince or sardines or butter.
I hope he responds to all the TLC and you have many more years together.
wishing very hard that you get the best kind of news.
Come on Dulce! We're all rooting for your speedy recovery!
Dulcie or Dulce (whatever) did a good poo and wee on the vets table. He was then taken away and as his bladder was full they emptied it for him. He can go out in the day which is good, and has more pills. Only cost me £19 as suppose this was included in the first bill, which I thought was good. He has to go back Thursday. He had a scan and couldn't find anything wrong, but did suggest an X-ray or an operation which is £1,500 which we will discuss on Thursday. I wasn't very keen on this idea, but life is strange was in the newsagent over the road in Enfield, and the lady in the queue had cat litter and I was talking about my cat, like one does, and she asked what was wrong. Told her and her cat had the same thing, which kept re-occuring and he was in the same vet hospital in Barnet. She said after it happened 7 times he had the operation and he is fine now for over a year. She also said she was on the TV programme the Chase (which hasn't been shown yet, so she must be clever) and nearly won £12,000 and if she had would pay for Dulce, but she didn't. Nice lady and strange that I met her this morning. Well OH has just offered to pay for the cat that he said he didn't like, so a result. Dulce was very happy to go out and went next door to tell Helen what an awful time he had had. I said as a joke just take him for a ride in the car in his carrier and he will wee and poo. Very impressed with the vet in Barnet. Feel better now as the vet will advise us more on Thursday.
I haven't been able to get on line for a while so was sorry to read about Dulcie. I hope he gets on all right and that he lives a long and happy pain free life after his operation.
My thoughts are with you and your husband at this time as it is very worrying when a pet is ill and we know how much Dulcie is loved. xx
Dulce is so happy to be home, vet tomorrow for check up. He has been taking all his pills, thanks to the easy pill sachet the vet gave me. He has learned to use the litter tray, and allowed out, but not at night, so hopefully tomorrow with his special diet we may not have to have the operation. Well the vet knows best. He decided to help by sleeping on the dust sheets in the lean to and I think he is just coming upstairs to see what I am typing about him. No more pills tonight, and the throat spray has been done twice today, which relieves the pain. So happy days, and I can eat tonight. OH loves him really, but still moans, haven't told him yet that he wet the new settee.
Hope today goes well for you and Dulce
Just caught up with this, poor Dulce & poor you, it really is so hard when they are ill & can't tell you why.
Hope he is better soon
Love & hugs to you all xx
Dulce went to the vet today, he disgraced himself again by pooing and peeing in the carrier when we got to the vet, but the vet was lovely and washed out the carrier. He was so stressed. Anyway good news, he is on a special diet, and can finish the pills he has, but if he is OK doesn't have to go back. If he gets blocked again he will have to be unblocked and have the operation if I agree to that. I didn't even have to pay today, or the other day apart from the special food, as it was all included in the price I paid earlier, which I was very pleased about. Next time he blocks up told OH to drive him round in the car, and it would be cheaper than the vet (only joking obviously, as not a very pleasant condition, and after 3 days can be fatal and goes to the brain). Even got him bottled water as read on an American website that bottled water can help with this problem, and put tuna juice in the water to encourage them to drink. Well an early night tonight as I will sleep well, but will keep him at night, but he was very pleased to be able to go out in the day. NO MORE ANIMALS, I am a nervous wreck.
That's great news. :) Keep peeing Dulce, you don't want an operation!
He's so happy to be home, had a good look round and has been in and out. Managed to get his pills down him, after opening a tin of tuna, and saved a couple of prawns from OH's sea food, no good, but eventually he took them with his salmon food from the vets. Now he's having a good sleep on the settee, I am watching his pee, which is little and often and he does use the litter tray which is now in the back garden, but bring it in at night when he is locked in the kitchen. He has started biting my feet again, when he wants attention, which is a good sign (I hope). Curry tonight for us, but not for you Dulce or Dulcie as the vet has written on your notes. Can't believe he is 8, time flies. His previous owners said he was 8 as one of their children is now 8, which is probably why he left home originally, cant stand children.
Cant fault High Barnet animal hospital, apparently it is one of the best in the country. I will now shut up about my cat.
Dulce seems to be doing OK but I am still on pee alert. Happy days.
Just catching up on Dulcie, I'm glad he is still doing ok, you must be over the moon :sunny:
Really hope he continues to improve, I bet he's loving all the attention and comfort of home.
He sounds a real character...great to hear his progress ;)
Dulce if you are listening and you are on the computer with me, if you don't poo tomorrow have to go back to the vet, spoke to them on the phone and they are a bit worried about you. You have special food and can pee, and I expect you will embarrass me again with a big poo and wee in the carrier in the car, and OH will not be happy, but best to get you checked. Bl..dy cat is making me a nervous wreck and may have to cancel holiday next week.
I think he is enjoying all the attention he's getting :happy7:
Hope he performs and you don't need another visit to the vet
Good luck with the poo, hope he is himself again soon xx
Dulcie was very cross as I didn't feed him this morning and he had to stay in all night, kept head butting the cat flap, but just back from the vet. He come up into the bedroom and knocked my tea all over the bedroom carpet. He did a massive poo at the vets, and they cleaned him up, vet inspected it, and told them to throw away the old towel. So happy that he poo'd. Anyway he has got a clean bill of health, bladder is empty but he has got a bit of hard poo still there, but have medicine to put on his food to make it softer. Good news we can go away on Monday for 3 days, obviously have daughter to look after him. Also may not have to have special food forever. He is having a lovely sleep on his beloved old dishwasher in a cupboard. Cost not too bad, £35 for the visit and obviously £20 for the special food, but he can also have a few treats but mainly the special food for now. Vet said not unusual for them to sleep in the cat litter tray as they do that whilst in animal hospital, but he has only done that once or twice. Well can now relax and get sorted for short break. Weighed him and he is still overweight, so will have to watch his diet.
Yay, well done Dulce as well! Glad to hear he's doing well. :)
So relieved abd pleased for you ;)
Well that is good news, well done both. You deserve your holiday :sunny:
Brilliant news, lots of hugs to you all xx
Phew, crisis over, thankfully - enjoy your break! :icon_cheers:
Dulcie seems to be back to his normal irritating self, and helping me with everything I do or rather not helping. He is back on alley watch and demanding food which he can't have too much of, as vet said he was too fat. A completely different cat from the days before we took him to the vet, should have taken him sooner but live and learn. Going to Wareham, Dorset Monday, just for 4 days, cheap Sun holiday caravan to have a look at bungalows. Have permission from the vet to go away, and told me to stop worrying. Lovely sunny day so a trip up to the allotment, although I have done nothing there this year yet.
So the vet has given the 'all clear' to both Dulce and you :tongue3: :icon_cheers:
Have a lovely time sightseeing and looking at the area!
:sunny:He's looking good :sunny:
Hope you find that bungalow
I do like a tabby, he's a very handsome cat!
So glad he's back to his usual cheeky self. :)
Have a good trip to Wareham, Borlotti. Are you thinking of moving that way? You should get in touch with Gazza if you are, as he is now in Dorset. It's a lovely part of the world and there are lovely beaches nearby.
I am so pleased that Dulcie is improving and almost back to normal.
Dulcie seems to be OK. If he has any further problems will take him back to the vet immediately. One very happy cat at the moment, fingers crossed.
Purrfect :sunny:
