Rhubarb (Rheum officinale Baillon) is a perennial vegetable. Wrongly, Rhubarb is often counted among the fruit species. This is due to its sour, fruity taste and the fact that it is mainly used for desserts.
Now all you need is some custard squash
But then again, I find that putting horse manure on my rhubarb makes it taste better! :angel11: :drunken_smilie:
On our west dorset site the rhubarb has been showing small green stalks (perhaps two inches high) all winter despite it being colder than normal with frosts. (-4/-5C)
It's quite unusual because they normally die right back to the crown for the winter.
With the mild weather forecast for the next couple of weeks perhaps the rhubarb will have a growth spurt and we too will be harvesting it a little earlier than usual. :happy7:
