Post by: Old Ace on September 07, 2016, 12:00:15
Tipped out a 30 litre tub if King Eds today, 2 chitted seed spuds planted with fish blood & bone and sprinkled with growmore in good light and well watered. Crop consisted of 10 potatoes 1 golf ball size the rest pea size, anyone any ideas or are these monster crops from tubs all in the mind

We have had a fantastic crop this year but have been hit by many rejects because of slugs. I have given buckets full of the better slug ones to all my relatives and they have just cut the bad bits off.  I set on manure then a layer of soil and for the for the 1st time I put potato fertiliser on. I do not know if it had any effect but we have had some half as big as a spade.
I set Lady Cristi as 1st earlies and then Manitou, Maxine, Maris Piper, and Picasso as main crop. It is the 1st time that I have grown Manitou but I impressed as they have a lovely taste and do not go down when boiling.
Like you Old Ace I have never had much luck with King Edwards. I have tried then several times but have always been disappointed so I now give them a miss.
