I have built a self watering system similar to Pauline7's ie: pots on capillary matting with ends of said matting in water. However I forgot to put a drainage hole in container. The watering system is working fine however the container has filled with waqter from previous top waterinhg of plants. Wondered if anyone could suggest a tomato feed that could be sprinkled on top of compost and worked in rather than watered in if you know what I mean. Would it be okay to sprinkle sulphate of potash on top of compost and work it in? Thanking in advance for any advice.
id give them the old ffb first just to replace whats been washed out then yeh i cant see why not i wouldnt use too much gently carefully i think is the order of the day
If applied to the surface, feeds need to be soluable, and preferably pre dissolved/diluted before application. Your roots will have been drawn down to the base to find water & nutrition. Why not add diluted solution to your reservoir and capillary action will take solution upwards. Having used the wick in the pot method, its not long before the roots follow the wick and enter the tank, hydroponics by default!
Thank you for your suggestions. :happy7:
