Title: food umbrellas
Post by: eastybeasty on June 12, 2016, 20:07:35
hi everyone

Assuming that the beautiful weather we had here in Scotland comes back at some point soon I'm needing to get another food unbrella or 2 as mine finally died last year. my husband said he remembered a post on here somewhere a couple of years ago as someone was using them over plants - cracking idea. he reckons it was lidl at the time. anyone know where i could try and get one? havent found any in the shops so far and a lot of them in ebay come from hong kong, singpore and other far flung places, no point in ordering it and it not getting here til the end of any summer we get  :toothy10: :toothy10: :sunny: :sunny:

There are loads of clear plastic umbrellas on ebay.  £20 gets you four.  Lots in the uk so will arrive in a few days.

I use the pop up ones instead....found the umbrella ones could leave gap under which flies could get in. I have this type and find them ok ( no connection to seller)

So in garden terms it is a net cloche!

I would have thought these were quite easy to make with some fence wire and some mesh or fleece.

Two hoops of fence wire tied at right angles  to each other then laced through preformed eyes which would be formed along the diagonals of a square piece of mesh.

The wires would then be pushed into the soil up to the hem of the net.

Voila a veg (food) umbrella
