Title: Fridge recommendations
Post by: lottie lou on May 07, 2016, 18:09:42
My fridge has broken down - gas leaked from bottle or something - anyway it doesn't work any more.  This is either the third or fourth fridge I have had in less than 15 yrs - since I went for those integrated things.  :BangHead: Can anyone recommend a decent brand that will last more than 3 years please?

It appears you have been very unlucky .

I do wonder if there might be a problem with where it is installed and whether it is getting adequate ventilation.

Hotpoint for example give a 1 year guarantee and 10 years parts guarantee but you must activate it on their website when you purchase it.

I have heard good reports about Zanussi products but do not have personal experience.

Beko. Without a doubt. I have paid three times as much previously for so called premium brands (Miele and Smeg) previously, both died within two years. Beko not only had superior interior fittings and layout it has so far outlasted the other two by another two years. Of course I have now jinxed it....I do think not being "frost free" helps though, they seem more fragile..

Don't buy a Samsung, apart from phones everything they make breaks down quickly. I has a stove and fridge that went in under 2 years . 1 TV and 2 DVD players the same. It was when we first came back and set up home, Fortunately we bought from a store who gave a free second year warranty so we were covered but with just the Samsung one we would have had it.

All the cheapies are made in the far east, all the same, just badged up different. You could be lucky and get a good one but the shelf life is about 3 years and usually uneconomic to repair. But levelling it up properly does improve its life. Our caravan fridge needs the caravan to be levelled properly before it works. I did notice our last indoor one had its motor running quite a bit until I really took the time and after an hour with the spirit level plus a load of choice words it s now working perfectly.
