Title: peas-v-sweet peas
Post by: lottie lou on April 12, 2016, 11:18:54
Is there any way to tell the difference between sweet pea seedlings/plants and ordinary peas?  I have five pots of "peas" but only two are labelled!!   One says Raven so I know it is the Sarah Raven seeds and the other says peas.  However I am unsure whether this means peas as in the eating variety or not.  Popped a load of marrowfats into posts this spring thinking of growing them to use as pea shoots.  I understand that one variety is edible and the other isn't.  Looks like I am going to have to grow them out and actually learn to LABEL things in future.  Note: Also have had  food from the freezer that wasn't what I thought it was which made mealtime a bit of a bother.

Could you photograph the pots you are not sure about?  Maybe that will enable somebody to sort which is which with certainty.

Could you have a look at the original seed on one of each if you dig one up? You should be able to tell from that...

Do sweet pea seedlings have a blueish tinge to their leaves instead of the fresh green of edible pea seedlings, or is that my imagination.....
