Title: Rosemary.
Post by: gardenqueen on March 20, 2016, 11:29:19
I quite fancy turning a small rosemary plant (£1 in Asda) into a standard. Has anyone done this and how successful were you? If not any ideas how I would start?

Hi lovely idea , I should think that it might fight you a bit and shoot from the bottom, but I'd just pick the strongest stem and take off all the others. Once your main stem us growing rub of lower buds until it reaches the height you want then pick out the top growing tip to encourage it to branch and then trim the branches to get them to branch. Pin sure an expert will be along with a better plan soon! Good luck with it x sunloving

You might have more success if you took a cutting of an established big plant and try to root the base of an already quite long woody stem, rubbing off all the leaves except the very growing tip.  That way your trunk would be already have a head start.

Sorry I haven't replied to your posts before now, other things like hospitals got in the way. Anyway I am going to try both your recommendations and if successful will post a photo on here!
