I know this is a pretty subjective but I would like to hear as many opinions on different asparagus varieties as possible due to it being a long term thing. I do have a preference for growing old veg.
Ta in advance.
Since the crop lasts 25 years, not many folk will have lived long enough to try varieties?? I just accept the one we have as 'asparagus' - without complaint or comparison. Except with Peruvian!! But, yes, I do like proper green Evesham type stuff.
Here's something one of the children dug up. Friends of yours?
Fantastic - love the picture
Just for eveybody's info - as if you are interested ;D, today I planted three crowns of an asparagus labelled simply 'green' from Wilkos.
We inherited our (along with rhubarb) when we took on our plot. No idea what variety but it is yummy.
I was dishing up the dinner and I asked my young nephew if he liked asparagus. He replied, "sparra"! I've never eaten one!!!
Kids today eh! ;D
One of my crowns was dug up overnight - have no idea as to the culprit - they had cunningly left know footprints or other deposits :-X. I am hoping it is just something that fancied a dig in the nice soft recently dug trench - and not something that fancied nibbling off the important bits. I have replanted and covered the tranch with branches to try and deter further raids.
